Apple and Orange to offer free films every Thursday.

Date Added 09/08/2011

Apple and Orange have teamed up to give their customers the chance to download a free film from iTunes every Thursday via a new service called 'Orange Film To Go'.

The new service works with Orange customers texting FILMTOGO to 85060 to receive a unique code. Customers can also receive the code by using Orange’s facebook page or the new Film To Go mobile app, the code can then be redeemed on Thursday's at Orange's website.

The film download via iTunes will be viewable on a laptop, PC or on Apple’s iPhone and iPad. Films downloaded will last for 30 days, however, users must finish watching the film with 48 hours of beginning playback.

My BlueBerry Night will be the first film to be available through the new service and can be downloaded this Thursday (August 11th). The Wrestler, The Ghost and Che: Part One will also be available over the coming weeks.

Orange advises its customers to download films via a broadband or WiFi connection due to the file size as downloading via 3G to a mobile device could result in significant data charges.

Here at the spot, we are hoping the new service will eventually allow customers to have a choice of movies to download each week instead of just 1 and if so, should online rental services such as Lovefilm be worried? With rumors of an Apple HDTV set for release next year and new films being released on iTunes every week we have no doubt that the new service has the potential to be as popular as 'Orange Wednesdays'.
