It’s official: iPhone 5 out on 21st September

Date Added 13/09/2012

Apple yesterday launched the highly anticipated iPhone 5 in San Francisco.

Ending months of rumors and speculation, CEO Tim Cook took to the stage to announce the latest addition to the iPhone family and all of its new features.

New features include:

All new design: iPhone 5 measures at 7.6 millimetres thin and weighs 112 grams meaning it is 18% thinner and 20% thinner than the iPhone 4S.

A New 4-inch Retina display: 18% more pixels than the iPhone 4S, the iPhone 5 has a 1136x640 resolution and a colour saturation that’s 44% greater than before.

The A6 chip: The new chip in the iPhone 5 is now twice as fast when compared to its predecessors A5 chip.

All new EarPods: Apple tested over a 100 different prototype designs when designing their new earphones. The result of this research means that the EarPods not only produce quality sound, but they are also more comfortable to wear.

All new Lightning connector: When rumors of a new dock connector surfaced, it wasn’t Apples most popular decision. However, not only is the new connector smaller, it’s also more durable and reversible meaning there is no wrong way to plug it in. Still not happy with the change? Well Apple also announced an adaptor meaning you’ll still be able to use your old accessories with the new iPhone.

Panorama mode on camera: This feature means that you can now shoot up to 240 degrees. The gyroscope, A6 chip and camera app also work together to create a high-resolution panaroma up to 28 megapixels.

iOS 6 will power the iPhone 5 and will have over 200 features including Facebook integration, A new maps app and enhancements to Siri.

Apple also announced updates to their iPod range at the event with the iPod touch now being available in a variety of colours, a 4-inch display and Siri. The iPod nano has also been re-designed with a new 2.5-inch display with video watching capabilities.

The iPhone 5 will be available to purchase from 21st September.
