Happy 30th Birthday Apple Macintosh

Date Added 24/01/2014

“Hello. I'm Macintosh. It sure is great to get out of that bag”

Today marks the 30th anniversary of those famous words and indeed the first Apple Macintosh.

Introduced by the late Steve Jobs and released to huge interest (thanks to that famous super bowl advert) the Macintosh is considered to be the first affordable computer to include a Graphical User Interface originally selling for $2,495.

Built around the new Motorola 68000 chip that ran at 8 MHz, the Macintosh came in a small beige case with a black and white monitor built in.

It also came with a keyboard and mouse and had a floppy drive that took 400 KB 3.5" disks, the first personal computer to do so.

With the maximum memory allowed being 1MB, the first Macintosh may not compare to the whopping 64GB of memory that the latest Mac Pro can take. However, it can’t be denied that it holds it’s own significant place not just in Apples history but the history of computing in general.
