At the end of 2013, Apple reported that they had sold 472 million iPhones since they were first launched in 2007.
Analysts have estimated that over 38 million iPhones have been sold in the current quarter, which ends in just a few days, meaning that Apple has sold its 500 millionth iPhone.
Although there has been no official word from Apple, in the past they have celebrated notable milestones, changing its homepage for the 30th anniversary of the Mac and in May 2013 awarding a $10,000 iTunes Store gift card to a resident of Ohio, USA for downloading the 50 billionth app.
With the iPhone 6 rumoured for release later this year, and the iPhone 4 set to re-launch in emerging markets, sales for iPhone devices aren’t expected to slow down any time soon and analysts are already predicting that Apple could hit the 1 billion mark by the end of 2016.
