On January 9th 2001, Apple released a digital music collection organiser called iTunes as a Mac OS 9 application.

10 Years later, iTunes has evolved and now has an online store selling a wide range of music, films, tv shows, podcasts and audiobooks as well as providing lectures for students via iTunes U.

With over 10 billion tracks downloaded, iTunes is the largest online music retailler in the world and has changed the way we purchase music.

As of September last year, iTunes also has it's own music orientated social network called Ping allowing users to see what their favourite artists have been up to, listen to previews of music they like and find out when they are on tour.

2011 will no doubt see a new update to iTunes, adding even more exciting and new features to this 'digital music collection organiser'
